The week of collaboration at Tomorrow Partners was in many ways a catalyst for YouthBuild USA to begin addressing several needs. Working in such close capacity with those outside of YouthBuild enabled us to grow aware of perspectives on many elements of YouthBuild’s work that are generally not consciously considered. Being given a comfortable space to creatively problem solve (combined with copious amounts of quinoa chocolate), while at the same time identifying and ignoring our current constraints, was eye opening, thought provoking, and motivating.

Managing the ever changing dynamics of our team, listening to the varying perspectives, recognizing when we “got caught in the weeds,” all under a deadline, was truly challenging. I’m looking forward to implementing the design process in our ongoing strategic planning. Most excitingly, our end product from the lab is now our current project back at YouthBuild. Thank you Sundance, Skoll, Tomorrow Partners, facilitators, designers, and fellow social entrepreneurs for establishing the new normal in social innovation.
